Thyroid, Adrenal & Sex Hormones Profile

The Thyroid, Adrenal & Sex Hormones Profile is a must service when trying to “Get to the Root Cause” of your health concerns. Hormones play a much bigger role in maintaining one’s heath than many people realize.  In fact, relatively healthy individuals who follow an optimal diet and supplementation plan may still suffer from hormonal imbalance symptoms, such as weight gain, fatigue and mood disorders.

Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted directly into the blood, which carries them to organs and tissues of the body to exert their functions.  There are many types of hormones that act on different aspects of bodily functions and processes.  For this reason, a proper balance of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, thryoid and other hormones are essential.

Hormone panels allow you to pinpoint deficiencies, thus providing you with the information you may need for optimal treatment.  In addition, thyroid testing can provide a general scope of metabolic efficiency throughout the body.

Like nutrients, hormones influence all aspects of health and disease – mood, sleep, metabolism, immunity, heart health and appearance.  An imbalance of one hormone can initiate cascade of events that alters other hormones, so a comprehensive look at hormone status is key, and the Thyroid, Adrenal & Sex Hormones Profile Package will assist in unlocking the causes of your symptoms.

Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance:

Regardless of gender, if you have any of the following symptoms, you deserve to find out if your hormones can be optimized:

  • weight gain
  • insomnia
  • fatigue
  • hot flashes/night sweats
  • dry skin & hair
  • low libido
  • depression, anxiety or diminished cognitive function or brain fog
  • premenstrual syndrome
  • migraines or other pain
  • infections or autoimmune conditions
  • blood sugar dysregulation (diabetes, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome)

Diseases Altered by Hormonal Imbalance:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Breast Cancer
  • Endometrial Cancer
  • Interstitial Cystitis
  • Heart Disease
  • Endometriosis
  • Polycsytic Ovary Disease
  • Diabetes

Nutrition in Hormone Balance:

You cannot fully achieve hormone health if you lack key micronutrients: vitamins minerals, amino acids, antioxidants and metabolites.  A single nutrient deficiency can negatively affect hormone levels.  So this is why also having micronutrient testing is critical when balancing hormones.

  • Are the building blocks of many hormones
  • Assist in the control of hormone production
  • Help regulate enzymes that act on hormones
  • Detoxify hormone metabolites that may cause common cancers in the breast, ovaries or prostate
  • Affect neurotransmitters and activate genes that regulate hormones

In a reverse relationship, hormones alter nutrient levels.

A comprehensive micronutrient profile combined with a comprehensive hormone panel gives a more complete diagnostic picture.

Hormone Test Components:

Steroid (Sex) hormones:  These include the commonly known sex hormones that impact our mood, metabolism and cancer risk, such as testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone  These also include important precursor hormones to testosterone and estrogens, such as DHEA-S, considered by many as the “mother hormone” since all other sex hormones are derived from it.

Regulatory (Peptide) Hormones:  These control the production and release of other hormones.  They include follicle stimulation hormone (FSH) and lutenizing hormone (LH) which regulate reproductive health in both men and women.  In addition sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and prolactin are measured, both which may inhibit the action of major sex hormones like testosterone.

Thyroid Hormones (and related proteins that affect thyroid function): These affect every cell in our body as most basic functions like metabolism, emotions and thinking are directly regulated by thyroid hormones.  We also test several proteins that affect thyroid function as well as antibodies to thyroid which can detect autoimmunity (when the immune system attacks healthy tissue).

Adrenal Hormones: Cortisol is a life sustaining adrenal hormone essential to the maintenance of homeostasis. Called “the stress hormone,” cortisol influences, regulates or modulates many of the changes that occur in the body in response to stress including, but not limited to: blood sugar levels, blood pressure, immune responses, anti-inflammatory actions, fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. In conjunction with DHEA-S, we can assess if you have adrenal fatigue.
